A review of mental health and wellbeing under climate change in small island developing states (SIDS)

2021

AbstractSmall island developing states (SIDS) are often at the forefront of climate change impacts, including those related to health, but information on mental health and wellbeing is typically underreported. To help address this research lacuna, this paper reviews research about mental health and wellbeing under climate change in SIDS. Due to major differences in the literature’s methodologies, results, and analyses, the method is an overview and qualitative evidence synthesis of peer-reviewed publications. The findings show that mental health and wellbeing in the context of climate change have yet to feature prominently and systematically in research covering SIDS. It seems likely that m…

2020

Abstract After the dramatic coronavirus outbreak at the end of 2019 in Wuhan, Hubei province, China, on 11 March 2020, a pandemic was declared by the WHO. Most countries worldwide imposed a quarantine or lockdown to their citizens, in an attempt to prevent uncontrolled infection from spreading. Historically, quarantine is the 40-day period of forced isolation to prevent the spread of an infectious disease. In this educational paper, a historical overview from the sacred temples of ancient Greece—the cradle of medicine—to modern hospitals, along with the conceive of healthcare systems, is provided. A few foods for thought as to the conflict between ethics in medicine and shortage of personne…

COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy among Ukrainians

2022

Overview of the pediatric healthcare system in Romania.

2020

Until 1989, Romania was one of the countries of the communist bloc in Europe and its healthcare system was characterized by centralized planning and severe underfunding, with low performance and low quality healthcare. Since 1998, Romania replaced the Semashko model with a social health insurance system, highly centralized under the management of the Ministry of Health as the central administrative authority. After joining the European Union, quality of life increased in our country and there were efforts to improve the quality of healthcare, including pediatric and neonatal care. Still, Romania has the lowest share of health expenditure of gross domestic product among the European Union Me…

Clinical complexity and diabetes: a multidimensional approach for the management of cardiorenal metabolic syndrome

2022

: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the fastest-growing health emergencies of the 21st century, and one of the chronic diseases with the highest socio-economic impact on health care systems. DM is the main cause of chronic kidney disease, and is associated with a significant increase in cardiovascular risk and clinical and care complexity. The presence of a constellation of cardiac, metabolic, and renal diseases, in a complex patient with DM, constitutes the CardioRenal Metabolic Syndrome (CRMS). The management of these patients should include a paradigm shift from a reactive strategy to a proactive approach, and the integration of territorial, hospital and social assistance services accordi…
